The Arrival of Our Little Man, Parker Wayne

The arrival of our son started early Saturday morning around 2:30 am. Contractions kept me up all night, but I was occasionally able to fall asleep between a few of them.  At this point I thought I just had stomach cramps and didn't realize I was in actual labor since it was 2 weeks before his due date. Around 8 am I told Patrick that what I was feeling wasn't normal and at that point we said this is it. Part of our bags were packed, but Patrick quickly packed the rest of the stuff we might need.  Patrick went to work for a few hours that morning and he came back around lunch.  At that point contractions were getting more regular and were getting closer together. We called our doctor and gave her a heads up and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to relax and watched tv.  We watched the Aggie basketball game and then The Bee Movie :) Which by the way is a really cute movie...I had never seen it. Around 6 pm, contractions were about 4 1/2 to 5 minutes apart and Patrick suggested I start walking around to speed things up.  Well it worked and at 6:30 we were in the car headed to the hospital.  We got there around 7 pm, checked in, and got on the table to check my progress.  I was 5 cm dilated and contractions were 3 1/2 to 4 minutes apart.  It was go time!  They got us in our room and after some crazy contractions, a trip to the shower to help relieve them, a lot of encouragement from Patrick and our midwife, and 5 hours later...out came our little boy at 12:24 am. We had a little scare immediately after him came out, he wasn't crying and was pretty limp.  Although we wanted to keep the umbilical cord attached for awhile, our midwife said we couldn't wait and for Patrick to cut it immediately.  They quickly got him suctioned out and then we heard his little cry and all was good!  I only got to hold him for about 5 minutes before they whisked him away to get him completely suctioned out to improve his breathing. Patrick kept an eye on him in the nursery and gave him his first bath.  Our families were patiently waiting outside the nursery to see Parker. Once Patrick and Parker were done they got us all transferred to the postpartum room and then I finally got to hold my little boy.  Our families came in not long after to meet their grandson/nephew and everyone was amazed at the amount of hair he had. They also said he looked like his daddy. We had lots of visitors the next couple of days and can't thank everyone enough for all the prayers and gifts!

Patrick and I are so blessed and can't express the how thankful we are for the gift of our son. Having a child is truly an amazing experience and we both can't wait for the new life and experiences Parker will bring to us. We love you Parker!
